How to Wear a T-shirt to Work (Without Being Too Casual)

At the Home T, we’re pretty spoiled because we get to wear a t-shirt to work everyday. Turns out, many employees in tech companies, creative fields and start-ups prefer wearing more casual get-ups to work as well, such as jeans, sneakers and graphic t-shirts. Nothing against corporate fashion, but 9-5 attire looks like it’s changing. Ties are out, t-shirts are in!

So if you are looking for a reprieve from the tyranny of suits, while still demanding respect in the board room, get creative with your outfit! These ladies below dressed up their Home T shirts with headbands, blazers, bags, boots, and jewelry to find the perfect balance of classy and comfortable. Casual Fridays will never be the same…

Arizona Home T preppy

This look is preppy, chic, and perfect for work! Her vintage leather boots make her blue jeans look more formal. We love the bright orange bag and clutch that adds some color to the outfit. Her preppy blazer adds a professional spin to her Arizona Home T. She pulls her hair back and finishes the look off with a cute red ribbon head band.

When wearing t-shirts with jeans, always opt for dark jeans. Dark jeans, as opposed to washed out or ripped jeans, look more formal. My favorite part about this look is the pop of color against her gray California Home T. Her lipstick and bag match perfectly, adding that beautiful red to brighten up the look.

Illinois Home T with heels

Working in NYC, we can never get enough of black on black outfits. She looks fierce with her cat-eye style shades and studded nude heels. Her graphic Illinois Home T adds some fun to her outfit. She wears heels instead of flats to feel more formal and sophisticated.

Texas Y'all T with skirt

We had to throw a skirt in the mix! This funky tiger pattern matches perfectly with her burnt orange blazer and tortoise shell shades. She’s also wearing our Texas Y’all Home T so that no one forgets that she’s Texas born and raised! To achieve a dressier look, she wears her t-shirt like a blouse and tucks it in with no wrinkles. Finally, she adds a statement necklace to glam it up!

California Home T with blazer

The easiest way to make a t-shirt work-appropriate is to pair it with a blazer. We love this outfit because most blazers are traditionally dark colors, but hers is a beautiful white. The black bag, baseball cap, and shark tooth chain add some edginess to her outfit.

Remember, men can rock a t-shirt to work too! Jordan looks dapper in his slim fitting blazer and California Home T crewneck. Notice how he adds a pocket square to jazz up the look and add a touch of individuality. He looks classy without being too casual, and the ladies love it!
